A North American debut for the #23 Qi Yun cultivar as a black 'thick' style tea. 'Thick' style tea consists of thicker leaves, which lend more aromatics to the cup. Try its 'thin' counterpart here.

Making it's first appearance outside of Taiwan is Mr Luo's TRES #23 Qi Yun cultivar. With this black 'thick' style tea, you will experience enhanced aromatics. Mr Luo accepted risk when he planted a whopping 8,000 hand-picked Qimen seedlings of the never-before-seen cultivar in 2019. His reward was a tea whose aroma turn heads when compared to the usual Camellia sinensis var. sinensis black teas. We are honored and humbled to be one of the first companies outside of Taiwan to offer the #23 cultivar to the public for the first time. Notes of toasted oats, violets, and marzipan.

The elements that create Da Yu Ling are as near-mythical as the tea itself—unreal blue skies, clear vistas and amazing serenity at gardens almost a mile and a half above sea level. Mr. Huang is the smallholder of an erstwhile apple orchard turned tea garden, one of the de facto producers of Da Yu Ling. At these heights, slowed metabolism in the plant give way to lower yields with more concentrated flavor in each flush. This harvest year, the gardens were graced with the unusual prevalence of tea jassids, instilling additional honeyed and apricot notes over the innate citrus and buttery notes of Qing Xin. Notes of nectarine, jasmine, and herbed compound butter.

Region: Da Yu Ling, Taiwan
Variety: Qing Xin 'Clear Heart"
Elevation: 2250 meters
Harvest: May 2021
Producer: Mr. Huang

The protean Osmanthus flower, an evergreen shrub native to Asia, is celebrated for it’s alluring fragrance, individual taste, and vast applications in culinary and beverage. Osmanthus was oft the muse of Chinese poetry during the Tang Dynasty and is said to have been the scholar's choice of houseplant for it's symbol of prosperity and good health.

According to Chinese legend, Osmanthus may have descended from the moon but was brought to Earth’s soil by a fairy, who scattered its seed during a plague that threatened the population. From mature Osmanthus shrubs, flowers bloomed and were made into a wine that cured the plague. Notes of botanical bitters, mango lassi, and apricot.

Region: Huangshan, Anhui, China
Producer Name:
Ms. Wang

Brewing Recommendation: 3g | 205 degrees | 4 min | 340g

"Unlike other flowers smelling either too delicate or too intense, osmanthus presents a floral scent that is clean enough to wash away the dust in the air and rich enough to spread over miles. It's hard to believe it comes from nature and not the moon in heaven"

- Song Dynasty poet - Yang Wanli.
