Meet the Producer
Mr. Chang
The Chang family has its roots in Lugu, the esteemed birthplace of Dong Ding oolong, and one of the tea world’s venerated roasting capitals. While they still bake in Lugu, their primary production focus has shifted to their organic alpine gardens. “Family tea” often connotes a parent and child, but the Changs a veritable example of the entire family contributing to the productions, and as such there is a deserved pride. For instance, if you ask for specific dates or processing styles, you will be politely referred to the matriarch, who manages the production facility. We met them twice on our trip this year: first at their Lishan garden, then at the Nantou Tea Festival where they poured for a never-ending line of curious drinkers.
