Brandy Oolong is an apt name for the dark-roast Taiwanese style vivid and rich in color, fragrance, and body; so much so that it’s often served in a snifter to enhance its seductive aromatics. Though Ms. Chou’s farm resides in Hongjian, the high mountain air yields antioxidant-dense leaves similar to those grown in Taiwan’s terroir. From her farm comes a beautifully complex Fujianese interpretation of this cult classic: using oolong and black tea roasting techniques and a succulently flavorful cultivar, this harvest is best enjoyed like the liquor it’s named for. Notes of agave nectar, Mirabelle plum, and wintergreen.
