Descended from the grafts of a tree dating back to the Song Dynasty, the Song Zhong is one of the classic tastes and aromas of the Phoenix oolong family. This lot was harvested from an old, feral tree grove in Wu Dong. At a kilometer above sea level, it's one of the highest gardens in the region. Cara's roasting techniques hearken back to tradition with a preference for deep, caramelized profiles. Her expertise is palpable: few Phoenixes carry such a range of clean flavors in balance. Thick and syrupy with grippy tannin—the tea opens up to peach and apricot notes with sweetness lingering in the throat long after drinking. Notes of magnolia blossom, honeycomb, and red rose.
