The husband and wife team of the Zhous have been quietly producing some of the best examples of orthodox “Rock Tea” oolongs in their Wuyi garden for years. The Huang Guanyin “Golden Goddess of Mercy” cultivar was produced from the hybridization of Huang Dan (Gold Grove) and Tie Guan Yin (Iron Goddess of Mercy) cultivars, combining the enlivening mineral characteristics of the former with the florality and “sour” of the latter. Harvested in late April from the region’s renowned ferruginous soil, the Golden Goddess is withered completely outdoors, fired and shaped, dried and then gently baked over the course of two days. We are lucky to offer the Zhou’s handiwork to you.
